Guidelines for 2009: New Rule Interpretations

ANU umpiring is well recognised within the Hockey ACT (HACT) community for its high standard.

Both the Men's and Women's clubs provide opportunities for interested people to develop their umpiring skills. We work closely with the HACT Umpiring and Technical Committee (UTC) to ensure that high level guidance in both theory and practice is available.

Umpires from our clubs umpire games at all levels in the ACT competition: from Capital League 1 and Women's 1 right through to Grass and social games. In addition, ANU umpires have:

              - umpired at National Championships
              - worked to obtain government funding for umpire development
              - participated in umpire training opportunities provided by HACT, the Australian Institute of Sport and others
              - received recognition through ACT Government 'Thanks' awards for club sport volunteers

The Clubs are allocated a total of approximately 400 umpiring commitments per year. We rely on willing members of our club to help to make sure that we meet each of these commitments (missing commitments results in loss of competition points for our highest graded teams, as well as fines to the club).

Umpires who fulfil club umpiring commitments on behalf of the Women's club are paid for each game.

Umpires who fulfil club umpiring commitments on behalf of the Men's club will be eligible for fee relief in the season subsequent to the season in which the commitments were done.

Umpires who are named to umpire at the CL1 to CL3 and W1 to W3 grades will be paid by HACT. Umpires must be of a high standard and approved by the UTC before umpiring at this level.

Women's Umpiring

"ANU Women’s Hockey Club has developed an enviable reputation of supplying one the largest groups of darn good umpires for Hockey ACT senior and junior competitions.” (excerpt from the 2008 year book). We would like to continue this tradition in 2009 so please put your hand up and get involved. Despite popular myth, umpiring is very rewarding, you get to become part of a very special group of ANU Hockey women and men, have access to training and mentoring, and will receive lots of pats on the back and a free ale or two for your efforts. This year Louise Crossman is the Umpiring Coordinator so please let Louise know if you would like to come on board the umpiring ranks louise.crossman@deewr.gov.au

The link above will take you to a calendar that shows all umpiring commitments as far in advance as possible, based on the information you've given me (i.e. agreeing to a commitment). It will also show commitments for CL1, CL2 and CL3.

If you think the times and places listed in the calendar are wrong, or I've put you down for something you didn't agree to, then please get in touch with me as soon as possible.
